Q.What types of songs and styles do you teach?
A.I can teach you to play a variety of different songs that you know and love in any genre from the 50's to the present. I can also teach you any musical style from Acoustic Guitar, Classical, Blues, Reggae, Funk, Country, Pop, Rock, Metal.
Q.My friend learns from lessons on the internet. Is that a good idea?
A.There are some good guitar teachers on the internet and not so good ones. If you're a beginner you can't always distinguish between what is good playing or bad, especially regarding technique. Also someone who has pre-recorded a youtube video can't tell you if you are making a mistake. A teacher sitting in the same room with you on a regular basis can guide you and correct any mistakes so no bad habits can develop.
Q.What levels do you teach?
A.From absolute beginners right up to expert level.
Q.What techniques can I learn?
A.All techniques are taught based on the level and musical interest of the student but basicially we teach all techniques on the guitar such as open chords, power and barre chords, strumming, harmonics, slide guitar, open tunings, finger picking, hybrid picking alternate and sweep picking and fretboard tapping.
Q.Do you teach theory?
A.Yes it is very beneficial for any musician, even someone who only aspires to be a bedroom player. Knowing some theory can improve the students rate of improvment greatly. It depends on the student and their goals but we can teach you to understand keys, harmony, chord construction, scales and how to use them properly including modal playing and developing improvisation skills. We also teach you to read tablature and if you want to, read music.
Q.Do you teach grades?
A.Yes if the student wants to learn them. I teach Grades from debut to grade 8 and have a 100% student pass rate with nearly all students achieving merits or distinctions.
Q.Are you DBS checked?
A.Yes, I have current DBS checks and have taught hundreds of children in schools throughout Milton Keynes. We inspire the joy of playing and learning a musical intrument to kids in a fun and safe environment.
Q.How long are the lessons?
A.Our lessons are an hour or 30 minutes.
Q.Where are lessons taught?
A.Currently lessons are undertaken at my home studio in Willen Park
Q.How much do lessons cost?
A.Lessons are £45 an hour whether they are individual or group lessons. I also teach 30 minutes lessons for £22.50.
Q.Do you offer lessons online?
A.Yes, I often teach lessons via Teams, Zoom or FaceTime.
Q.Do you have a cancellation policy?
A.Yes I need 24 hour notice otherwise I do charge for the lesson.
Q.Why are some teachers cheaper?
A.Teachers charge what they think they are worth based on their ability, experience and musical qualifications. I am a graduate of the Musicians Institute and have played for many musical instrument companies such as Marshall, Vox, PRS, Yamaha amongst others. This gives my students confidence in the quality of their guitar instruction.
